Ligue 1 matchday 4: Lille, Monaco and Rennes share the top, PSG edge Brest, Marseille lose again

Four rounds in, three clubs have ten points and none of them is Paris Saint-Germain. Lille, Monaco and Rennes are level at the top, all unbeaten; PSG, who beat Brest 1–0 on Sunday with a fifth-minute goal, are eighth with five. Marseille lost 1–0 at Rennes on Friday, their third defeat in four. It was a low-scoring round — nine matches, fifteen goals, no red cards — with two goalless draws and two matches in which a two-goal lead was thrown away.

The results

Rennes 1–0 Marseille opened the round and was decided by Adrien Thomasson's goal on 52 minutes. Rennes had twenty shots and seven on target; Marseille, thirteen and five. Marseille have lost three of four.

Stade Brestois 29 0–1 Paris Saint-Germain: Ferrán Torres scored in the fifth minute from Ousmane Dembélé's pass and PSG defended it. Brest had sixteen shots to PSG's fifteen. PSG have one win, two draws and a defeat.

Lille 2–0 Estac Troyes: Tiago Santos scored on 18 from Dilane Bakwa's pass and Ethan Mbappé, from Maurits Kjaergaard, added the second in the third added minute. Troyes managed one shot on target.

Strasbourg 1–1 Monaco: a Sadibou Sane own goal on 52 minutes put Strasbourg ahead; Paris Brunner equalised on 71 from Lamine Camara's pass. Strasbourg had two shots on target all match.

Auxerre 1–0 Nice: Cameron Archer scored on 74 from Christ Makosso's pass. Nice had 68 per cent of the ball and eight corners and have yet to win; they have scored once in four matches.

Lorient 2–2 Toulouse was 2–0 at half-time — Ibrahima Balde on 37 and Noah Mbamba on 39, both from Panos Katseris's passes — and level by the 68th: Casper Tengstedt on 48 and Thomas Jorgensen on 68, both set up by Cristian Casseres.

Le Mans 2–2 Lens followed the same shape. Adil Bourabaa scored on 32 and set up Lucas Calodat on 44; Abdallah Sima pulled one back in first-half stoppage time and Franjo Ivanovic, from Ruben Aguilar's pass, equalised on 51. Lens had sixteen shots and nine corners.

Le Havre 0–0 Angers and Paris FC 0–0 Lyon were the goalless ones. Le Havre had fifteen shots and six on target without scoring; Paris FC and Lyon managed eleven shots between them, five on target. Lyon and Paris FC are both unbeaten on eight points.
