Champions League matchday 1: PSG score six, Bayern and Barcelona five, and Real Madrid beat Inter

The league phase opened with 69 goals in eighteen matches and three of the favourites scoring five or more. Paris Saint-Germain beat Slovan Bratislava 6–1 with a Ferran Torres hat-trick and two goals and two assists from Ousmane Dembélé; Bayern München scored five without reply against Bodø/Glimt, all in the second half; Barcelona scored five against Feyenoord. The tighter results were at the Bernabéu, where Real Madrid beat Inter 2–1, at Anfield, where Liverpool came from behind to beat Atlético Madrid, and in Naples, where an M. Odegaard goal on 75 minutes gave Arsenal a 1–0 win. Sixteen wins, two draws, three red cards.

Tuesday

Real Madrid 2–1 Inter was two up by the 23rd minute — K. Mbappe from B. Diaz's pass on 14, F. Valverde on 23 — and Carlos Augusto's goal on 77, from L. Martinez, was Inter's reply. Inter had 64 per cent of the ball and 21 shots to Madrid's sixteen; Madrid's expected goals were higher, 2.91 to 1.83.

FC Porto 0–2 Manchester City: E. Haaland scored two minutes into the second half from E. Fernandez's pass and again in the 90th from R. Ait-Nouri's. Porto did not manage a shot on target.

Borussia Dortmund 3–2 Villarreal had S. Guirassy score at both ends. An R. Veiga own goal put Dortmund ahead on 53; S. Mourino equalised on 66 from G. Mikautadze's pass; Guirassy scored on 80 from F. Silva and from the penalty spot on 85; and in the 90th minute an own goal by Guirassy made it 3–2.

Lille 2–3 Real Betis: Lille led 2–1 at half-time through A. Ueda and Alexsandro, but M. Bartra scored twice — on 33 from P. Fornals's pass, on 49 from Isco's — and T. Parrott, from R. Riquelme, won it on 53. Ethan Mbappé was sent off for Lille three minutes later.

Club Brugge 2–3 Aston Villa: J. McGinn, E. Buendia and N. Jackson had Villa three up by the 43rd minute; H. Vetlesen and an N. Tresoldi penalty made the score closer than the shots — Villa had 21 to Brugge's fourteen.

AEK Athens 1–0 LASK Linz: R. Marin's goal on 21 minutes was enough.

Wednesday

Paris Saint-Germain 6–1 Slovan Bratislava: O. Dembele on 17 and 23; F. Torres from Dembele's pass on 31, from M. Akliouche on 47, and from Dembele again on 57; F. Ruiz on 87. S. Camara scored Slovan's goal on 58. PSG had 35 shots, fourteen on target.

Barcelona 5–1 Feyenoord: Raphinha scored in the third minute from Lamine Yamal's pass and again on 57 from Pedri's; K. Adeyemi, from J. Cancelo, on 22; Yamal on 77; Gabriel Jesus, from Yamal, on 85. S. Steijn scored for Feyenoord on 82. Barcelona had 72 per cent of the ball.

Liverpool 2–1 Atlético Madrid: M. Llorente put Atlético ahead on 17 from J. Alvarez's pass; D. Szoboszlai, from R. Araujo, equalised on 40 and A. Mac Allister, from A. Isak, won it on 50.

Napoli 0–1 Arsenal: M. Odegaard on 75 from C. Tzolis's pass. Arsenal had 26 shots to Napoli's five and eight on target to three.

Sporting CP 3–1 Galatasaray: a G. Inacio own goal on five minutes put Galatasaray ahead; G. Catamo on 27, an L. Suarez penalty on 57 and R. Zalazar on 63 turned it round.

VfB Stuttgart 3–1 Viking was over by the 32nd minute: E. Demirovic scored three, from A. Stiller's pass on 20 and from D. Undav's on 26 and 32, with Z. Tripic's goal on 22 in between.

Thursday

Bayern München 5–0 Bodø/Glimt was goalless at half-time. Jamal Musiala scored on 47 from Harry Kane's pass, Kane on 61 from Michael Olise, Alphonso Davies on 77, Olise on 83 from Lennart Karl and again in stoppage time; Odin Luras Bjortuft was sent off for Bodø on 87. Bodø did not have a shot on target.

Manchester United 4–0 Sabah: Matheus Cunha, Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Šeško before half-time, from Patrick Dorgu, Youri Tielemans and Bryan Mbeumo's passes; Lisandro Martínez on 68. Sabah had eleven shots and none on target.

Como 4–1 RB Leipzig: Martin Baturina scored on 15 and set up Anastasios Douvikas on 38; Assane Diao Diaoune, from Nico Paz, made it three on 54; Andrija Maksimović replied for Leipzig on 58; Maximo Perrone, from Paz, added a fourth in the 90th.

Slavia Praha 2–3 Lens turned late. Mikulas Konecny was sent off for Slavia on 49; Danijel Sturm scored on 51 and again on 88 either side of Abdallah Sima's equaliser on 73; then Florian Thauvin, from Mezian Soares Mesloub, in the first added minute and Ruben Aguilar in the third won it for Lens.

Fenerbahçe 1–1 AS Roma and PSV Eindhoven 1–1 Shakhtar Donetsk were the draws: Bryan Cristante's goal from Donyell Malen's pass on 39 was answered by Archie Brown, from Mason Greenwood, on 48; Gleiker Mendoza's goal from Isaque's pass in first-half stoppage time was answered by Sergiño Dest, from Armando Obispo, on 48.
