Bundesliga matchday 3: Freiburg and Dortmund the last perfect records, two 5–0s, and Bayern made to work at Elversberg

Three rounds in, the Bundesliga has two teams with a perfect record and neither is Bayern München. SC Freiburg put five past Borussia Mönchengladbach and lead on goal difference from Borussia Dortmund, who beat Paderborn 3–0; Bayern needed a Harry Kane goal on 72 minutes to win 2–1 at promoted Elversberg and sit fourth. RB Leipzig also scored five, against Hamburg, who have conceded twelve in three matches without scoring. Nine matches, 33 goals, one red card, two missed penalties.

The results

SC Freiburg 5–0 Borussia Mönchengladbach was two up inside half an hour — Yannick Engelhardt from Derry Lionel Scherhant's pass on 23, Igor Matanovic from Matthias Ginter on 29 — and became a rout after Tim Kleindienst was sent off on 52. Matanovic scored again on 77 from Jordy Makengo, Engelhardt again on 79 from Ginter, and Maximilian Eggestein added a fifth on 86. Gladbach had five shots and none on target.

RB Leipzig 5–0 Hamburger SV had Tidiam Gomis on 17 from Ezechiel Banzuzi's pass and Antonio Nusa on 28 before half-time, then three in five minutes: Willi Orbán on 72 and Christopher Nkunku on 74, both from Nusa, and Rômulo José Cardoso da Cruz on 77. Nusa finished with a goal and two assists.

Borussia Dortmund 3–0 SC Paderborn 07 was one goal for 75 minutes — Fábio Silva from Serhou Guirassy's pass in the fifth — until Felix Nmecha scored twice, on 80 from Maximilian Beier and on 89 from Marcel Sabitzer. Paderborn had ten shots and none on target.

SV Elversberg 1–2 Bayern München: Lennart Karl scored from Kane's pass on 26 minutes, Maurice Krattenmacher equalised on 61 from Noah Darvich's pass, and Kane, from Aleksandar Pavlović, won it on 72. Bayern had 72 per cent of the ball and 28 shots; Elversberg had five.

Union Berlin 1–3 FC Schalke 04 opened the round on Friday and ended in the thirteenth minute of stoppage time. Robin Gosens on 25 and Adil Aouchiche, from Junior Chukwubuike Adamu, on 46 had Schalke two up; Tim Skarke, from Tom Rothe, pulled one back six minutes into added time; Maximilian Wöber, from Hwang Hee-Chan, scored the third seven minutes after that. Union had 66 per cent of the ball and twenty shots.

1899 Hoffenheim 2–1 VfB Stuttgart was Adam Hložek's match: the opener on 13 from Bambasé Conté's pass, and the winner on 67 from Adam Daghim, after Maximilian Mittelstädt had equalised on 48.

FC Augsburg 2–2 Bayer Leverkusen: Christian Kofane scored for Leverkusen on 18 from Edmond Tapsoba's pass; Michael Gregoritsch scored twice in five minutes after the break, on 50 from Hennes Behrens and on 55 from Fabian Rieder; Patrik Schick, from Malik Tillman, equalised on 89. Leverkusen had thirty shots and fourteen corners and left with a point.

FSV Mainz 05 1–3 Eintracht Frankfurt: Can Yilmaz Uzun scored on nine minutes from Jonathan Burkardt's pass; Nadiem Amiri missed a penalty for Mainz on 43; Burkardt, from Jeremiaha Maluze, made it two in first-half stoppage time and Uzun, from Mario Götze, three on the hour. Phillip Tietz's goal on 89, from Otto Ruoppi, was Mainz's consolation.

1. FC Köln 1–1 Werder Bremen: Thijs Dallinga missed a penalty for Köln on eight minutes, Linton Maina scored from Ellyes Skhiri's pass on 11, and Niclas Füllkrug equalised on 69.
